Ewelina Kotwa
Ewelina Kotwa (Poland) is a choreographer, performer, and researcher. She lived in Scandinavia (Sweden and Denmark) for a decade, where she discovered dance while pursuing her PhD in applied mathematics. She has been living in Freiburg since 2014. In 2016, she completed her dance training at bewegungs-art TIP. Since 2018, she has been developing stage works, performing, facilitating artistic processes, and teaching. She has created work under the labels twOne Company and Silent Kosmonauts Kollektiv, and has been associated with KOMA&Ko since 2026. Internationally, she collaborates with Copenhagen-based artists and collectives such as Sisters Hope and Kitt Johnson.
Ewelina understands her work as an embodied form of activism — a poetic engagement with sociopolitical issues rooted in a dense web of scientific, philosophical, and social science perspectives. Her artistic language moves at the intersection of dance, theatre, installation, and performance. Her interests focus on the relationship between humans (particularly women) and nature, cyclicality, and ritualised practices.
Central to Ewelina’s practice is an exploration of the nervous system, both individually and collectively. She investigates embodied strategies for building resilience and expanding the scope for action in situations of uncertainty, danger, and experiences of catastrophe.
Ewelina has worked at the Institute of Psychosomatics at the University Hospital Basel. Since June 2026, she has been a research associate at the Department of Psychology at Trier University.
In her private life, she is also the mother of two spirited girls, Lu Selma (8) and Ida (2), and lives in a large shared household in Freiburg.
