Theresa Rothe
Theresa Rothe (*1990) works as a visual artist in Dresden and Leipzig. In 2013 she began her studies at the Dresden University of Fine Arts, and graduated in 2019 with a diploma and in 2022 with a master's degree in the sculpture class of Prof. Wilhelm Mundt. In 2019, she received the award of the Saxon State Scholarship and realizes works for exhibitions at home and abroad. Her artistic works combine sculpture, installation, drawing/painting as well as performative elements. In the process, she reflects on and questions the curiosities of everyday life, animal observations, or the voyeuristic gaze in an examination of her own body and various materials. Dream images and fantasies function as the basis of her exploration of the unconscious. She attempts to create her own world, otherwise hidden, through a symbolic and figurative language. She combines these nuances of surrealistic and personal experience in her works to invite the viewer(s) into a field of tension that is composed between the grotesque and play, thesis and antithesis, dream and reality, inside and outside. In addition to her artistic work, she also acts as a performer and costume designer in various collaborations including M.over Company (Leipzig), Performance|Rooms|Art (Weimar) and is a member of Galerie Stephanie Kelly Dresden since 2016 and SALOON Dresden since 2019 and is represented by Galerie Irrgang in Leipzig since 2022.
