caru
"caru" - a dance performance created in response to the topic of sustainability, an Old English word that means both "worry, sorrow" and "cry, shout, sound". Thinking and talking about sustainability is frustrating for us, but it is also a trend in the cultural landscape at the moment. The logical thing to do would be for everyone to stay at home and close the theater. But lights back on and doors open again. Inspired by reading the indigenous scientist R.W. Kimmerer, we have begun to understand sustainability in a more comprehensive and original way: cognitively, physically, emotionally and spiritually. We read THE CARE MANIFESTO, listened to the sound of the river and the city and stood in the cold wind with arms like branches. For us, sustainability means being able to take a step back, respecting interdependencies, "to care for/about/with" instead of thinking in terms of profit and individualism. We don't believe that stage work with big themes really changes anything socially, but dealing with these themes changes us and hopefully in the long term.
"The breath as a perpetual motion machine. Fingers spread out, shoulders roll, legs stride out. If someone falls, he or she gets up again or is caught. It could go on forever. The dancers become quieter and hold this urgent energy. They clamp themselves together to form a multi-legged body, four buttocks as humps, they clump together, their arms sprout upwards like young shoots. One remains a tree while the others get lost in the world. There's humor, tension, rhythm, surprise."

Funding
TANZtrialog is a project in cooperation with ROXY Ulm/TanzLabor, EINTANZHAUS Mannheim and Tanznetz Freiburg, which serves the supra-regional networking of venues and freelance choreographers and dancers. The choreographic experiment was originally inspired by ChoreoLab Ulm, which has long given dance artists more creative opportunities to develop innovative artistic content and facilitate deeper connections with the audience. TANZtrialog is funded by the Art Innovation Fund of the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts of the State of Baden-Württemberg, Cultural Office of the City of Mannheim. We would like to thank TanzSzene Baden-Württemberg for supporting the project idea. Tanznetz Freiburg is funded by TANZPAKT Stadt-Land-Bund with funds from the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media, the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts and the City of Freiburg. The partners of Tanznetz Freiburg gUG are E-WERK and bewegungs-art Freiburg.
